The negativity of omitting and forgetting is not infrequently productive. Transparency society tolerates neither gaps in information nor gaps in one's field of vision. Yet both thinking and inspiration require a void. Incidentally, the German word Glück (happiness) derives from Lücke (gap or blank). In Middle High German, Glück was still written as gelücke. In keeping with that, a society that no longer permitted the negativity of a gap would be a society without happiness. Love without a gap in one's field of vision is pornography. And without gaps in our knowledge, thought degenerates into computation.
